epda Workshop on Smart Packaging
April, 6: Hands-on programme for brand owners, designers and packaging production industrials, who came together to learn how to use new technologies that make packaging smart. Uwe Melichar, epda board member, moderated the workshop at Packaging Innovations Berlin, in which participants developed a concept for smart packaging by using the NFC technology. The winning idea: A picnic box providing lots of useful information about its content: from ingredients lists to nutritional values.

Breakfast Talk in Germany
Jan 20th, a group of about 25 experts of the design business gathered to listen to Renne Angelvuo, epda President and Designer from Finland, to get inspired by Finnish packaging design. Uwe Melichar, epda board member from Hamburg, revealed latest news on epda's upcoming activities this year before everybody enjoyed a delicious breakfast prepared by Christian Wrenkh and his team from Hamburger Kochsalon. Again, a great bunch of people who came together to get to know each other and share experience.

epda design exhibition travelling ..
From Dec 5 to Dec 28 part of the epda exhibition shown at Taoyuan Arts Center can be seen at the Chung Yuan Christian University in Taouyan, Taiwan. We are very pleased that the Chung Yuan Christian University organised a follow-up of the epda exhibition by giving students the possibility to study around 60 pieces of work by European and Asian design agencies. This will certainly inspire them while working on the epda design project initiated at the conference in Taoyuan on October, 28. Learn more.

epda meets Indonesia
Nov 24, CUBE Design Museum, Kerkrade: Rob Vermeulen and Claudia Josephs, epda board, introduced epda, its vision and activities to trade delegates of the Republic of Indonesia. Rob opened the following discussion with a presentation on the development of food packaging in Germany and more general in Europe. - We are very pleased to multiply our contacts to the Asian world and appreciate a lot being connected to Indonesia now!
epda Members: How different are we?
European congress participants took lots of impressions back home from the epda Congress in Taipei a fortnight ago. We learned a lot about Asian culture and packaging design in Asian countries. But are we all the same here in Europe? Certainly not! epda Members come from the most different countries. This little presentation gives proof of a variety of cultural and design aspects throughout Europe. Enjoy!

Oct, 27: A group of 50 attendees from East and West came together in Taipei to explore how much courage we have to take in the design business to succeed locally and globally - a great congress day with lots of interesting presentations and inspiring case stories. Business Meets Design Conference: Great Success!
On September, 8 key note speakers from various professions came together at the Cube museum, Kerkrade, to discuss the past, today, and the future of of packaging and design. French design pope Gérard Caron and Jan Oldenburger, Senior Partner at Roorda, an independent Dutch advertising agency - both involved in the founding of the epda (at that time PDA) - gave their view on the development of design in the past 40 years. Today's situation was tackled by brand owners' such as Philips Lighting and Solu Machines - a Finnish start-up company, as well as by Prof. Mikko Koria from the Institute for Design Innovation, Loughborough University London. The audience took a lot of inspiration from the speech by Cate Trotter, Head of Insider Trends, who gave a scenario about where the future will lead us. And Tim Scheffer, a young Dutch designer, completed the program illustrating his most recent projects. Learn more here.

Packaging Innovations Hamburg: An Eye on Europe!
On 24 June epda presented design works by members agencies to the visitors of Packaging Innovations Hamburg. Great packaging samples were exhibited at the epda stand and during his inspirational talk about similarities and differences between European packaging design Uwe Melichar took fair visitors on a journey through different European countries.
